Comic characters are funny to read and add an element of humour to your daily life, but more than just being a character to add smile to your face, they mock at the society and more important human follies and hypocrisy. What one cannot express quite brazenly the comic characters strips out the out of the humbugs of our daily life.
The emotions expressed does not only reflect the moods of the character but your mood when placed in certain situations. They truly emote our inner self and also creatively show us a way to life. I have always been influenced by characters like Garfield, Peanuts, Animal Crackers Dilbert but my favourite has always been Calvin & Hobbs- Bill Waterson. He has by far covered all the aspects of modern life especially American life laced with sarcasm and wit. He not only mocks at the human nature but also makes you laugh at your own self and makes you rethink how we look at life in our crackling boring routines.
I love to await Times of India - Bangalore every morning and sip down 3 boxed strip of Calvin and Hobbs with Tea, its like facial muscle yoga flexing the smile for the long upcoming day. I cut out the strip from the newspaper Bill Waterson and collage it in the scrap book. I have been doing it for past 3 years and now have about 3 scrap book full of cheeky Calvin and his family. Now times of India seems repetitive about the comic strip, maybe they have run out of content.
You may wonder what's about collaging a strip when one could always search them on-line, but for you to know its different, its like having your own collection handy and a great mood lifter.
Calvin - The most witty kid I have ever met, Hobbs - anthropomorphizing tiger who loves Calvin, Susie - the lunch and classmate, Ms Wormwood- the teacher at school, Moe- the bully at School, Rosalyn- The babysitter and finally ever enduring Calvin's mom & dad - All these characters come to tea at my table everyday and bring alive the moments of reflections. I openly declare my love for you all today and write my first blog entry in honour of Bill Waterson- the great man in making with a life well lived and well understood.
